There’s no question that H2O is nothing short of a miracle. It is the fundamental building block to life that separates our Earth from the other planets in the cosmos. 60% of the average (human)adult body is made up of water, facilitating functions from cellular homeostasis to the workings of all major organs. This basically means that humans cannot survive more than a few days without water – preventing dehydration and improving bodily processes with ease.

Hence, it’s safe to say that water doesn’t just facilitate life, water improves it.

But did you know that drinking the right kind of water can actually help build your immunity?

As important as it is to drink water and hydrate the body, it is equally important to drink the right kind of water.

At the end of the day, Water helps oxygenate the blood, which ensures that each cell performs at maximum capacity. Healthy cells mean that your muscles and organs are functioning at their best, and in turnkeep you feeling as healthy and happy as you can be.

How to Avoid the Post-Lunch Energy Slump https://www.kominwater.com/how-to-avoid-the-post-lunch-energy-slump/ https://www.kominwater.com/how-to-avoid-the-post-lunch-energy-slump/#respond Mon, 24 Jun 2019 09:33:25 +0000 https://www.kominwater.com/?p=600 Continue reading "How to Avoid the Post-Lunch Energy Slump"

]]>
They say that the hour after lunch is the most ineffective hour in any workplace. That’s because it arrives right on time for your midday slump after the sugar-fuelled energy spike. We have all caught ourselves feeling sleepy or yawning at our desks around an hour after eating lunch. This is only natural, because your blood sugar levels drop after your body is done processing your lunch.

Here are 6 healthy ways you can avoid the lull in the middle of your workday by keeping your energy levels high and your body healthy!

 1. Lunch Daily, Lunch Right

Lunch should be early, light and balanced. Junk food is a bad idea because it gets digested more quickly, causing a faster spike and consequent dip in energy. Smaller portions are easier to digest for your body, while overeating puts unnecessary pressure on the digestive system. Also, while it may be easy to forget about lunch on a busy day at work, it is essential for you to eat the right lunch at the right time, so that your health or your performance isn’t hampered.

 1. Lunch Workout

Take a little bit of time out of your lunch hour for physical activity or exercise of any kind. You could walk to lunch and back, or even take your lunch to a nearby park, for a quick ‘picnic’ around nature. Even if you don’t have time for a walk outside, you can walk around in the office, do some stretching or even desk exercises, to get your blood and oxygen circulation going.

 1. How Do You Sleep?

Your lack of energy during the day could also reflect how well you sleep at night. To function at its full potential, the human body needs at least 8 hours of sleep every night. If you go to bed too late or don’t sleep very well, you can feel the afternoon slump even more, since your body isn’t well-rested and is also experiencing tiredness and fatigue.

 1. Energy Boost

Coffee is the go-to fix for people when they’re feeling sleepy at work. It is however, necessary to be careful about the amount of coffee you drink and when you drink it. Experts suggest that if you must have a coffee after lunch, you shouldn’t wait too long. Caffeine from even a late-afternoon cup of coffee can disturb your sleep pattern. If possible, you should go for alternative post-lunch energizing beverages such as smoothies or traditional Indian drinks, made with natural mineral water.

 1. Pick-me-up Playlist

Put together a list of your favourite upbeat songs in a post-lunch playlist. You can tune into this playlist on your lunch walk or even as you get back to work after lunch. Listening to music will not only keep you awake and attentive, it’s also been known to help increase productivity at work.

 1. Hydration Fix

Dehydration can cause some of the most annoying symptoms that accompany the energy slump, such as headaches, fatigue and irritability. Hydration is the very basis of a healthy lifestyle. Start at the beginning of the day by drinking a glass of natural mineral water, which will not only help you stay hydrated but will also give you essential minerals, salts and electrolytes. Keep a water bottle at your desk and don’t forget to keep drinking from it, throughout the day.

Here are some ways to avoid the dreary afternoon energy slump. Try them out for two weeks and tell us how they worked out for you at hello@kominwater.com

When You’re Starting a Gourmet Food Truck https://www.kominwater.com/when-youre-starting-a-gourmet-food-truck/ https://www.kominwater.com/when-youre-starting-a-gourmet-food-truck/#respond Mon, 24 Jun 2019 09:31:09 +0000 https://www.kominwater.com/?p=597 Continue reading "When You’re Starting a Gourmet Food Truck"

]]>
Old, young, rich, or poor, street food is an important part of all our lives. We’ve all grown up around street idlivada carts, chaat stalls, and ‘Chinese’ food trucks, but the new buzz in the street food world are, high-concept, Gourmet Food Trucks. The great thing about a food truck is that it does away with a lot of your culinary and business limitations. Today, food trucks are serving it all! Whether it’s classic soul food like dosasand burgers, or a quirky take on it like a pao bhaji rolls and deep-fried Oreos, as long as it tastes good, there is surely an audience for it. So much so, that even five-star hotel chains like The Lalit, are getting on the food truck bandwagon!

This is great news for you if you wish to start your own food truck. Here are a few things you should really keep in mind before starting out.

 1. A Solid Start

Your food truck business can only be as strong as your team is. People choose one food truck over another over the subtlest of differences in the taste profile. Loyal regulars even refuse to eat their favourite comfort foods unless made by their favourite cook at their favourite food truck! If you’re starting a food truck business, you need to build a strong team of people you trust. You should be able to completely rely on everyone onboard, to be able to create a signature taste for your food truck.

 1. The Squeaky Clean Truck

To begin with, make sure your truck is in good shape, is insured, and that you have all the other necessary documents, including your license, in order. Also, keep your food truck completely neat and clean. Your customers will appreciate it if you do this and they will surely remember if you don’t! Make sure your food truck’s décor, both inside and out, is warm, inviting and gives the guest an idea of what your food truck is all about.

 1. Budgets & Research

It’s easy to lose track of the workings and various unavoidable expenses in the food truck business. In fact, if you don’t keep this aspect completely under your control, there is a real possibility that things might spiral out of control. This is why you need to do extensive research and prepare plans, and most importantly, budgets, before going into business. You also have to ensure that these budgets are never overshot, unless there is a really good reason to do it!

 1. Menu

Your menu is the penultimate interaction that guests will have with your food truck. Once they are at your food truck, they would look at your menu and decide what to eat, or even if to eat! Make sure your menu is short, easy-to-navigate and well-designed. Before you put anything on your menu, remember to try it out with a focus group of your trusted friends. And of course, always budget the recipes on your menu before pricing them, to find out if they are financially viable or not.

 1. Ingredients

Ingredients are everything. Whether it’s the pao, the peas, or the pasta, make sure you use the freshest, locally sourced, and organic ingredients in your recipes. This not only keeps the quality of your food high, but also pays forward the benefits of your business’ success to the community around you. Over time, this builds you a robust and reliable vendor base, which will stand by you through thick and thin!

 1. To Wash it Down

When setting up a gourmet food truck, always round off your menu with a beverage or two. Something as simple as lemonade will do the trick! You also can’t afford to ignore the water. You should always have clean, drinking water available at your food truck. In fact, if you believe in healthy and holistic eating and want something special to go with your gourmet food truck menu, you can go for natural mineral water coming from a pristine source. We recommend Komin Natural Mineral Water, sourced from the ancient aquifers of the mystical Sahyadris.

]]>
Good food is the heart and soul of any good restaurant. It is the food that brings the crowds through the doors, but there are a few things that could really make your restaurant more welcoming. These small things make an immediate impact on your guest and can also stop them from visiting you, if they go wrong!

 1. First Impressions

The décor of your restaurant is the first interaction that your guest has with your brand. It’s a big part of the guests’ dining experience. When they take the first glance at your décor, it should give them a sense of what it will be like to dine at your restaurant.

 1. Smells Fishy?

The smell is a big part of experiencing food. If you get it right, your restaurant will be associated in the guests’ mind with the smells it houses. Unfortunately, the same is the case if you get it wrong. A foul, musty or ripe smell can be a big turn off for guests! Make sure your restaurant has a crisp, dry and inviting smell that washes over your guests as they come in.

 1. Table for Two?

Your service staff, right from the host, to the servers, the bartender, and the busboys, all make an impression on your guest. Make sure you have well-trained, experienced and helpful staff. The human aspect of dining out can bring back your customers again and again, if it hits the right note with them.

 1. Comfort is Key

The dining tables and chairs should be stable, sturdy and spacious enough for the guest to enjoy the food in peace and comfort. The table should also be at the right height and setting for the kind of menu you have. Having to constantly mind their elbows can become an annoying interference in their meal.

 1. Squeaky Clean

Cleanliness is priority number one! In the food business, a lapse in cleanliness can be not just bad for business, but also bad for the health of your guests. We can’t say this enough! Everything in your restaurant, from the kitchen to the waiting area, should be daily cleaned and sanitised.

 1. A King’s Spread

The crockery, cutlery and glassware in your restaurant can make or break the experience of your food. First off, they should be cleaned and sanitised after each use. Moreover, if the dishes and drinks are presented in a way that compliments the menu and most importantly, easy to eat and drink, people can fully concentrate on the food and appreciate it better. The cutlery fitting each item served should be laid out before the food is brought to the table.

Golden Rule: NEVER use plates, bowls or glasses with cracks or chinks!

 1. Nature’s Call

The bathroom is a place where the guest will spend the least amount of time and if it’s clean and functional, they would probably not even think about it for a second! If your bathroom is filthy, foul-smelling, or out of order, however, it can hijack the entire experience. Make sure the washrooms in your restaurant are clean, accessible, and don’t have unnecessarily complex signage that has to be decoded!

 1. Water, Water, Everywhere

When dining out, guests like to have choices in everything. And it’s only fair they get this choice in the water they’d drink for the evening. Having just one bottled water option in your menu is simply not enough anymore. In fact, leading restaurants of the world have now started having dedicated fine water menus with up to 20 different kinds of water, complete with pairing suggestions featuring items on the food menu. For the forward-thinking restaurateur, it’s important to get on board and expand their horizons on fine waters, before they miss the bus!

7 Must-Haves in Any Hotel Room https://www.kominwater.com/7-must-haves-in-any-hotel-room/ https://www.kominwater.com/7-must-haves-in-any-hotel-room/#respond Mon, 24 Jun 2019 09:20:14 +0000 https://www.kominwater.com/?p=583 Continue reading "7 Must-Haves in Any Hotel Room"

]]>
Hotel rooms are a large part of life for a lot of people. Whether it’s for work or leisure, people want a seamless experience when they go to a hotel room, especially when they are paying a dear premium for it.When it comes what works as far as the style, amenities, and elements in a hotel room are concerned, people have a wide variety of preferences. However, there are certain basics which are largely the same for most people, irrespective of their tastes otherwise, and are absolutely non-negotiable.

Here are these 7 basics which guests look for in every hotel room.

 1. A Smell that Welcomes You In

The moment we enter a room, any room, we are introduced to the smell of the room. This smell gives us the first impression of the room and prepares us for what lies ahead. If the air is heavy, musty, mouldy and reeking of obscene amounts of ‘freshener’ spray, our nose crinkles up in a cringe. If it is the fresh, crisp and mellow smell of light air, we automatically develop a subconscious affinity to the place we’re in.

 1. Clean Bed Linens and Furniture

After completing their journey and arriving in their hotel room, people plonk down on their bed or the couch. If the bed linens, sofas or couches are not clean, sanitary, and fresh smelling, it can be immediately off-putting to people and is considered a cardinal sin that is never forgiven or forgotten.

 1. No-Compromise Showers

A spic and span bathroom which is regularly cleaned and sanitised is a must. There is no bigger turn off than a foul-smelling bathroom! The showering area should be spacious, with squeaky clean shower curtains that stay out of the way without sticking to the guest’s elbows every time they move around! Mould on the shower curtains can also be not just revolting, but even dangerous!

 1. Clean, Fluffy, White Towels

Another non-negotiable factor is clean, large, white towels. A good towel can affect the guest’s stay at a hotel much more that anyone could guess. A clean white towel lets the guest know that the hotel is not trying to ‘hide away’ any stains from them, in coloured or printed towels. After a full day of sight-seeing or business meetings, guests are yearning for a hot shower and a dirty, stale or stained towel can completely ruin the experience. A guest would never revisit a hotel that failed to provide them with clean towels!

 1. A Room That’s Just Right!

A room that is too warm or too cold is yet another issue that can become a nagging problem for guests, throughout their stay. Different people have different preferences when it comes to the temperature of their space and the guest should have complete temperature control in their hotel room. Guests find it unacceptable to be stuck in a room that doesn’t have a fully functioning and easy-to-use thermostat system.

 1. A Silent and Sturdy Bed

Beds that are either hard like stone or so soft that they are unstable are a pet peeve for many. Some beds are so fluffy that the guest is jolted awake every time they shift a leg in their sleep! Whereas others are so hard that guests need to bring along their own sleeping bags to line them. Again, there are different preferences when it comes to the structural integrity of their bed. Ideally, a hotel should have two kinds of mattresses, one which is soft yet sturdy and another which is a harder orthopaedic mattress.

 1. No Scavenger Hunts for Drinking Water

Drinking water is another undeniable basic that every guest seeks from their hotel room. Apart from two complimentary water bottles, per guest, per room, a reliable brand of bottled water should also be available to order through room service, at all hours. While any reputed brand will do the job, guests will appreciate it even more if the water available is not only premium, but also naturally enriched with essential salts and electrolytes, such as Komin Natural Mineral Water.

Volcanic Aquifers: Demystifying the Source https://www.kominwater.com/401/ https://www.kominwater.com/401/#respond Sat, 13 Apr 2019 17:11:32 +0000 https://www.kominwater.com/?p=401 In our previous blogs, we have talked about the source of Komin Natural Mineral Water: the secret aquifers of the Sahyadri Mountains. Now, let’s take you deeper to explore this mystical natural mineral water source.

An aquifer is defined as an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock, rock fractures or unconsolidated materials such as gravel, sand, or silt, or in the case of Komin, pristine volcanic rock. This means that it is a pocket of water, hidden beneath the surface of the Earth, following years of organic filtration and enrichment through layers of natural substances.

As per hydrogeology (the study of water flow in aquifers and the characterisation of aquifers), there are numerous different kinds of aquifers, such as saturated aquifers and unsaturated aquifers. The Earth’s surface has varying amounts of water, underground, at almost every location on the earth’s surface. Therefore, the Earth’s crust can be divided into two sections, the first being unsaturated zones, where there are pockets of both, air and water fill most of the spaces left empty by rocks and other natural materials. The second section is called saturated zones where naturally purified water occupies all the empty space available. It is saturated zones, that are mostly bored to extract water for human consumption.

The aquifers that are home to Komin Natural Mineral Water are volcanic-rock saturated aquifer. Volcanic rocks are rocks that are united in origin but can have a wide variety of chemical, structural, mineralogical and hydraulic properties. This is due to the variations in the type of rock, and the pattern in which the lava was ejected and deposited at the time when the volcano erupted! Some volcanic rock, for example, is highly permeable and allows rain water to pass through, unfettered, some can only let it pass through fractures or cracks in it, while some are absolutely impenetrable by water.

The aquifers that Komin is sourced from are a section of the Earth’s crust that is mostly made up of volcanic Basalt rock. Basalt is unique in its structure and composition, since it forms in linear columns, when magnesium rich and iron rich lava erupts out of volcanoes. It is a fine-grained rock and its name comes from the Latin translation of ‘very hard rock’.

Basalt is considered to be the best volcanic rock for natural mineral water aquifers because it allows water to flow vertically through itself, deeper and deeper into the ground. This is because Basalt tends to have ‘pore spaces’ and is conducive to the creation of a saturated aquifer, due to basaltic lava’s highly fluid nature and its fine line of flow during the process of rock formation. It is also layered quite finely and intricately because while forming, these lava flows frequently overlap. Often, the empty spaces created by this overlapping rock structure are filled by soil, making the water filtration process even more rigorous.

And this is how this unique elixir of life is nurtured by these mighty rocks, infused with essential minerals and salts, and prepared for your consumption over centuries and centuries of nature’s careful nurturing. All we at Komin do is, bring this natural mineral water right from these incredible ancient aquifers of the mystical Sahyadris right to your favourite supermarket or e-store!

Connoisseurs of Water https://www.kominwater.com/connoisseurs-of-water/ https://www.kominwater.com/connoisseurs-of-water/#respond Sat, 13 Apr 2019 17:10:14 +0000 https://www.kominwater.com/?p=399 Water plays a huge part in our lives. Some water tastes like the town where we grew up, some reminds us of the way water tasted when we visited grandma in the village family home. The taste of water can instantly transport us miles and years away! So, it’s no wonder that when it comes to water, we all have our unique preferences. Some people prefer their water smooth, some fruity, and some even salty and metallic, but that is a rather simplistic understanding of water taste profiles. Now, however, there are real world water experts out there. Yes, we’re talking about water sommeliers.

Let’s begin with stating a fact: all water isn’t the same. Water isn’t even just water. Depending on where your water comes from, it has differing amounts of minerals and salts dissolved in it, it has differing pH values, differing nature, differing levels of purity and of course, differing taste profiles!

Water sommeliers are water experts who taste and profile water, based on its region and depth of origin or its ‘terroir’, the composition and amount of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and as a result the taste it has. TDS levels can be as low as 40 (Norway) to 7400 (Slovenia)! The taste of water has quite an impact on everything we eat or drink. It affects the taste of the food that is cooked in it, the cocktails that are made with it, and even affects the results of wine and beer production! Wine sommeliers study all this and more.

A fairly new and upcoming field of study and practice, water tasting is fast gaining traction all over the world. Martin Riese, Jessica Altieri and John Zhu are some of the world’s leading water sommeliers. A few years ago, Riese painstakingly developed a 44-page water menu, listing 20 different kinds of water, along with food and cocktail pairings!

Today, there are opportunities out there to learn more about water for all those interested. Organisations such as Fine Water Academy, Doemens Academy and Purelogica Academy offer both online and physical certification courses where you can discover the multitude of nuances that every glass of water holds. The already established water sommeliers of the world also have their own workshops where they help you explore and understand the wide variety of water.

Now, scepticism is not only expected, but it’s also healthy. In fact, Riese, the first water sommelier in the world, says that people who attend his water tasting workshops are often sceptical to start off as well. As the workshops progress, however, and as his evaluation is supported by each sample of water they taste, they are more open to the wonders of the water world.

So, try and taste as many different waters as you can, and pick your favourite! In case you’re a stickler for doing things the proper way, enrol in an online water sommelier course today!
